5 reasons why I love Dollhouse

I love the show Dollhouse so much. Everyone should watch and love this show.

In no particular order:
1. Topher. I love Topher so much, he is the best character. So hilarious, best super genius ever.
2. How they use Victor whenever they need a male active to do something for them. Eg. if they need someone to be imprinted as Topher and use his skills whilst Topher is away, Victor's your guy. He can also be a psychologist if needed and an italian mobster. I'm fairly certain there are no other male actives in the Dollhouse.
3. Whenever any of the macho male character have to say "Dollhouse"
4. Victor and Sierra's love. I really, really love how Victor and Sierra are all meant to be and such, so adorbs.
5. How Adelle DeWitt says her name so it sounds like it's all one word

Self-esteem: hating something you can't change

I think I have pretty good self-esteem. I work out quite a lot which releases endorphins and also makes me feel good about looking after myself. I take good care of my hair and skin, take vitamins and shit, use high quality, natural products. And I don't allow myself to hate something about myself that can't be changed. Sure, it'd be nice if my thighs were smaller and my ass wasn't so booty-licious, but those are things I can change through exercising and healthy eating. I don't hate my nose because it's bigger than most, or wish my hair was curlier/straighter naturally, because that doesn't help anything.

Constantly comparing yourself to other people and wishing unchangeable things about yourself were different is so unhelpful. You can't change those things without extreme surgery, you'll have them for the rest of your life, so why keep on putting yourself down?

Whenever I look in the mirror and think "I wish my nose was smaller" or see someone with a cute little nose and compare myself to them, I stop myself and think "Well this is what you're stuck with, so better make the most of it, besides, look at all your other nice features."

And the thing with weight loss and all that is that even if you lose all the weight that you want, you'll still continue feeling bad about yourself, looking good to other people and feeling good about yourself are two different things. Every time you look in the mirror think "Damn, I'm fine!" rather than, "Just 5 more kilos."

ISO 5-in-1 clipless curling iron

I bought the ISO 5-in-1 clipless curling iron on ebay from this seller. It is awesome.

First of all, the whole idea of a clipless curling iron is awesome.
- The curls look way more natural than the ribbon-like curls that you get from a traditional curling iron.
- To me, it feels like it's less damaging to the hair because the hair isn't clamped between two hot plates and the ends don't get heat on them because you're holding them
- My hair curls a lot easier with the clipless iron, not sure why, but it does and the curls last a lot longer too

I very much enjoy this curling iron. I bought it in pink because why the hell not? and I think it's the best idea ever to create a curling iron that has interchangeable curl sizes, super convenient.

How to use a clipless curling iron

This chickie has an awesome video on curling your hair (traditional or clipless - clipless curling starts at 6mins)

ISO 5-in-1 clipless curling iron
Heat up time: quite quick, I used the heating up time to section my hair off
Ease of use: relatively easy, high chance of burns if you don't wear the heat proof glove that comes with it, which I didn't, and thus got burned. I prefer it over a normal curling iron because I prefer the curl it produces and it's easier to use, or I guess it makes more sense to curl it like this...
Price: Pretty good bang for your buck. Mine was AUS$110, which I would consider to be medium in terms of clipless curling iron prices. But this is pretty much five curling irons in one, so that makes it pretty awesome price wise. AND! It's really good quality too, ceramic barrels, a long cable, swivel cable attacher thingy, two heat settings, once again mentioning the awesomeness of it being interchangeable. AND AND! It's pink. So I definitely recommend it.

My art teacher wants me to get a medical certificate because I have a headache today and will be handing in my sculpture tomorrow

Which is completely useless because you would generally get a medical certificate if there was something treatably wrong with you, which my headache is not as it is tension related.

If I went to the doctor, I'd be paying like $40 for a piece of paper that says I have a headache. And none of the symptoms of a headache are visible. It would all be questions that I've already asked/answered myself. Do I have severe pain in my head? Yup. Is it tension related? Yup, got scoliosis all up in this bi-atch. What makes it better? Darkness, heat packs and neck massage - all non-prescribable treatments.

What I really need is to see my osteopath, whom can't give me a medical certificate as he is not a doctor. So infuriating.

AND! Why do you even need a medical certificate? Do you not believe that I have a headache? Do you think a doctor will be better at deciding on whether I have a headache or not?

I love Lush ladies

Anyone noticed that the ladies (Not being sexist by only referring to the women, I have only ever seen one male SA at Lush and he doesn't work at mine anymore) at Lush are super lovely? Like, my God, they are so lovely.

I've made friends with one of the SA's at my local Lush and now she always remembers me even when I haven't been there in a month. Also we have the same name, Ellie. It's a nice feeling to be remembered, I feel very valued.

I think Lush does a brilliant job at making customers feel valued, even when I'm talking to a Lush girl that I haven't met before, they always seem very interested in me and whatever product I'm wanting. Well done, Lush, my love for you continues to grow.

And! I am loving the packaging changes, putting the dusting powders in bottles like this:
are such a better idea than the old sifter packaging that would spill everywhere and never really close.

Packing list for the paranoid: Rome (Summer)

My family and I are venturing once more to Rome in June this year and I'm quite excited. Now that I've been there before at this specific time, I further know the kinds of things that I need to bring, so I thought I'd share them with you and any travelers that stumble upon my blog.

Some general info first:
It's really hot in Rome during June, like really, really hot. The traffic is crazy, terrifying when you're a pedestrian trying to cross the street. What's most terrifying is the scooters, they don't stop for you like cars do at crossings, they just swerve around you. I don't like putting my life into someone else's hands. So when crossing the road, be aware that cars won't stop if you wait patiently at the start of the crossing, you have to venture into traffic in order to actually cross. I combat this by walking until I find a smaller street that has less traffic, or just stay on one side of the road for the entire trip. It's pretty easy to get by without knowing Italian, a small amount is needed obviously, but you can get by with pointing and gesturing.

Tips for ladies:
Rome isn't a very safe place for ladies, I wouldn't advise walking around on your own. Watch out for fake taxis, they're a bit of a worry. In general, the men creeped me out, very leery. So be aware that it might not be as safe as what you're used to.

Onwards with the packing list:

- Bring lightweight clothes, it's not only hot, it's also really freaking humid
- Lighter moisturisers are needed for the above reason also
- It's very difficult to walk in heels on cobblestone paths, there are many of these in Rome, be aware of this
- You will not need jeans or any type of pant, this is skirts/dresses and shorts only weather
- You can buy cashmere and fancy jumpers relatively cheap there, so if you feel the need to bring a jumper, know that you can buy a lovely one when you arrive, if you even need it
- Walking shoes are a must. Not necessarily heavy duty running shoes (aimed at ladies here, but men shouldn't wear running shoes unless they're running either), flats or canvas tennis shoes do fine
- A way to put your hair up off your neck because it's too hot for hair on neck action
- Sunglasses and a hat! Need I say more? Although there are also some really cool hat shops in Rome too

MAC ladies

For some reason MAC stores always have the meanest shop assistants. It confuses me greatly as to how and why they were hired when they're obviously not good people. Very occasionally there'll be a nice person (like the madam that works at the Carindale MAC, with whom I am gradually forming a friendship with), but more often than not the assistants will be total bitches.

It gets to a point where I don't really want to go to MAC because of the bitches, but I love MAC, so what am I to do?!

I think it's some pretty weird business that MAC's doing if I don't want to go into the store, whilst also really wanting to.

Oh Jesus I smell so good

I just put on some coconut body lotion (I love coconut & cream lotion) and I smell so freaking good, my God. I could eat myself. It's like coconut frosting (which I didn't know what a thing until now) and I want to make some.

I thought you should be aware of my desire to eat myself. If my posts starting coming a lot less frequent and are poorly typed, then you'll know that I gnawed my own arm off out of coconut lust.

Why I both love and despise showering in winter

Showering is the best, I love it so much. If I could shower forever I would and I'd die happy. In winter, however, we have a bit of a love/hate relationship.

The gloriousness of a steaming hot shower after freezing your extremities off is the best thing in the world, but there are some drawbacks:

- getting out of the shower afterwards is nearly the same amount horrible as getting in is glorious
- You are not only really cold after you get out, you are also wet, which makes you even colder
- Furthermore, you are also naked, leaving you defenceless to the gusty winds of your bathroom
- If you're anything like me, you'll blast the scaldingly hot water and stand under it until you're legs and feet are mildly burned/pink for the next twenty minutes
- How would you ever escape a serial killer if you are both cold and naked? Pretty sure your body would go into spasms and you would just seize at their feet. Good luck evading attacks whilst flailing on the tiles of your bathroom floor.

All of these things are horrible, but the amazing feeling of being crazy hot after being crazy cold is so worth it. Although it doesn't really seem like it when you're facing an axe wielding murder with nothing to defend yourself with but a toothbrush.

Update with my life

I've been trying to be a better friend lately. One of my best friends is Christian (and I am insanely Atheist) and I think she thinks I think she's an idiot for believing in God. Sometimes I wish I could believe in an all powerful being that had a plan for me, but I can't, so sometimes I think it's stupid, but sometimes I'm jealous too.

Anyway, I've been trying to make her feel more accepted by me because I've realised that she may not be feeling so welcomed by my anti-God comments. Something that seems to be working is singing during my school assemblies. I go to an Anglican school and every whole school assembly (which is weekly) we pray and sing and all of that, they're big on God there. I usually just stand in silence not singing their God focused songs, but today I sang with my friend and I realised that I enjoy singing, so it shouldn't matter if I'm singing about something I don't believe in.

As an added bonus I can now be one of those people that sings and doesn't give a shit about what people think, which I enjoy. Because people are dicks and they shouldn't be able to tell me what's okay and what's not.

I'm feeling good because I've accomplished a lot in the past week or so, I:
- Broke up with my boyfriend even though I was really nervous about it
- Finished my SOR assignment on time and handed it in today
- Got out of my non-exercising sick funk and worked out yesterday
- Have been hanging out with my brother a lot which makes me happy

Also, I'm listening to The Temper Trap at the moment and it always makes me feel really nostalgic for some reason. Simpler times? I don't think so, just that kind of nostalgic whirly feeling in my stomach. Makes me have feels.

I've been going on Symptom Checker far to much lately

I think I have a problem. I check the smallest things like when I was tired yesterday I started freaking out thinking I had heart rhythm disorder or mononucleosis...whatever that is. I also just looked up "itchy scalp" because my scalp feels funny because I just exercised and didn't wash my hair, turns out I have been in contact with poison oak. Which I'm fairly certain I've never seen in my life.

I am insane.

Lesbian movies make me sad

They never end well, why can't lesbians end up together? There's always one that feels unfulfilled and it makes me sad. I want the lesbians to be together.

The last two movies I've watched the gay protagonist has discovered that actually they're not gay, so no need for new partner. I do not like this.

Also, why are gay movies so weird? Like the acting is bad and the lighting is bad and they can't seem to have normal story lines like straight movies. I want a movie where the female main character can't seem to find love, so she decides to give up and then she suddenly meets female love interest, there's some difficulty, for example an ex/some sort of baggage, but eventually they end up together and every thing is all hunky dory. Why can't I have that?

I was thinking about it last night right before I was going to sleep (always the time when my mind goes crazy) and I realised that that probably isn't going to happen for a very long time. Isn't it eerily similar to the historical racism towards african american people - not allowed to marry, not allowed to vote, not seen as human/natural. And still today there are hardly any movies featuring a black protagonist and when there is a black character they're all so stereotyped and have much less screen time than the white characters, and it's been hundreds of years! So I won't hold my breath.
